Lady Gaga, Cyndi Lauper Launch Lipsticks for MAC

Wednesday, February 10, 2010 - - 1 Comments

Two of music's most colorful performers are teaming up for an ad campaign for MAC cosmetics' AIDS Fund.

Lady Gaga and Cyndi Lauper will appear in MAC's new Viva Glam advertisements and are lending their names to new lipsticks. The Viva Glam line, which was started in 1994 and has already raised $150 million, donates every dollar of its sales to help men, women and children affected by HIV/AIDS.
"We want to make this trendy and fun," Gaga, 23, told Women's Wear Daily. "We don’t want this discussion of AIDS to become this overly intellectual discussion, because we need to make discussions about AIDS really normal -- not sitting in school nodding off because your teacher’s handed you some sheet that’s like all these percentages and graphs, and you’re thinking, well, she probably hasn’t had sex in 15 years. Sex education should be bright and vibrant and every woman should want to have this in her purse."
(In fact, one ad reads, "You know you've got a sexy voice. Use it! Let's talk about how to keep your love life safer, seductive and satisfying. Just between us girls!")

The bubble-gum pink Viva Glam Gaga and the coral red Viva Glam Cyndi lipsticks will be available on March 18 and will cost $14, according to WWD.

The two blonde singers -- who join a long list of stars who have worked on the Viva Glam campaign, including Fergie, Christina Aguilera, Eve, Mary J. Blige and Lil' Kim -- hit it off at their recent photo shoot for the "From Our Lips" ads in New York City.
"We lucked out," Lauper, 56, said, adding that in the '80s, she put lipstick everywhere -- not just on her lips. "When we met each other, we liked each other and are interested in the same type of things. We laugh about similar things."

Both stars are expected to make personal appearances on behalf of the initiative, and the ads will appear in magazines later this month.
